The Porta Hotel Antigua, Guatemala

The Hotel Porta Antigua is a great choice if you are looking for a centrally located property with all the amenities, perfect for a stay with your group, or for a private journey to this amazing country.

It is right on the Southern end of Calle del Arco, which is away from the most busy areas of the town but will take you in just a few minutes on foot to the lively Parque Central.

During our recent stay we absolutely loved being able to walk to our favorite little restaurant,La Casaca and all the other sties worthwhile seeing during our time here, including the Cerro de la Cruz.

The Accommodations

The hotel has a total of 110 rooms but because it is located on 3 different blocks, it has a very cozy feel with lots of green spaces with beautiful courtyards and water features.

The room categories are:

  • Deluxe Rooms
  • Premium Rooms
  • Junior Suites
  • Master Suites

All room categories have either 2 double beds or 1 king size bed, this is especially helpful when you have a group where participants like to share a room.

Even though the hotel has 110 rooms, because it is set in 3 separate areas, it is easy to create a very intimate atmosphere for just your group

One of the annexes has 36 rooms which have their own pool and are set around their own open garden courts, which makes for a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

This particular annex is connected to the main building and amenities like the spa and gym, via a underground walkway. This was personally my favorite accommodation area at the hotel due to its intimate and exclusive setting.

The Meeting Spaces

The hotel has 8 meeting spaces, holding anywhere between 15 – 300 people.

Having had the opportunity to see most of the meeting rooms, what stood out was how bright each one of them was. All of them feature floor to ceiling windows, flooding them with light.

All meeting rooms look out to a beautiful courtyard or its own outside meeting area, creating a great setting for an inspiring group experience.

Besides the ‘formal meeting rooms’, there are also a number of perfect out side spaces where more informal meetings can be held.

One of them is the beautiful, covered terrace with magical views over Volcan de Agua.

This is the perfect space for an early morning yoga, meditation or just an informal meeting with your group.

All meeting spaces can be completely customized for your group!

Whether you would like to have yoga mats prepared, theater style seating or candles for a warm and cozy evening closing meeting, together with the team at the hotel, whom I have personally met with, will make sure that it is all perfectly arranged for you.

The Amenities

Besides the hotel being a great location, there are an array of amenities which will make any stay here even more enriching, relaxing and inspiring.

  • A beautiful pool in a well manicured garden
  • A concierge and service center who will be happy to assist in any way possible
  • Restaurant with local and International food options
  • A recreation and tour center to arrange any experiences for you
  • A great gym for even the most discerning work-out enthusiast
  • Fast WIFI throughout the hotel grounds, including all guest rooms

The Spa

The Ceiba Spa is a real sanctuary with numerous treatment options and it even has a sweat lodge which can be arranged for the use of your group.

The spa has 5 treatment rooms which makes it especially easy to arrange numerous simultaneous treatments for a group which is a request I most often receive when arranging a group itinerary.

Some of the treatments available are:

  • Spiritual Rituals
  • Massages
  • Body Treatments
  • Essential Facial Treatmaents
  • Beauty Salon

Whenever we make the arrangements for a group retreat, we’ll of course also take care of any spa treatment bookings for the group in advance, as requested.

The Conclusion

Antigua is a great city for some inspiring and exciting activities to share with your group or your personal stay.

There are some great hikes to the nearby volcano, visit a local family owned coffee plantation and learn the process from “Seed to Cup”, enjoy a walking tour and learn about the fascinating history of Antigua or simply stroll the quaint streets of this picturesque Unesco World Heritage Center.
