Sheri’s Article | Our Upcoming Trips at a Glance
Dear Friends,
WHAT’S NEW? Dealing with purchasing a car! This month my car lease was over and I had to go car shopping. This was the first time I leased and honestly – I didn’t enjoy it. I’ve been thinking a lot about our spending habits in general, and I couldn’t justify having a car for 3 years and then giving it back. My last car I drove for 11 years – and I think I received my money’s worth from it! I imagine there are accounting reasons that might make it better to lease – but are those reasons ones that benefit our planet, or just our taxes? I don’t have an answer to that, but I do have questions.
In addition, it turns out that my new car is made in Europe with a clean diesel engine that gets 50 mpg! Yet in the USA, I can only purchase this car with a gas engine that receives 30 mpg. What is going on in this country?! In light of Earth Day, I’m curious what you think about all this – do post a comment at the bottom of the newsletter! ♥

If we come from the energy of lack and need, hoping that someone is going to complete us or love what we dislike most in ourselves – suffering is inevitable. The Secret Life of the Spiritual Rebel
Recently I had an experience that almost every one of us has had to deal with – having one’s email account hacked. My luck, it happened while I was out and unaware, so by the end of the day every human I know received a wonderful link from me to a Viagra website – complements of someone who I imagine has too much time on their hands!
The whole event in and of itself was no big deal, and I set out to apologize to as many people as I could (sorry if you were one of those folks!). However, what surprised me was the number of extremely nasty notes from people. Not from the people I know well – they realized what had happened and that I would never do such a thing knowingly. But my email account is filled with hundreds of people who have written me for advice over the years, or to comment about one of my books, or simply to vent something stressful in their lives – who do not know me well.
The largest number of folks in my email account have come to me through my connection to don Miguel Ruiz having read and enjoyed The Four Agreements. So I know that they are aware of the First Agreement: Be Impeccable With Your Word, and the Second Agreement: Don’t Take Anything Personally. But that doesn’t mean anything – what we say we believe and how we actually translate those beliefs into our lives is a totally different story.
No matter what path you study, it’s one thing to resonate with your spiritual teachings and another thing to put them in into practice. It’s amazing how often people will recite The Four Agreements and then justify with all their personal power why they have the right to be angry, curse, project onto others, and be disrespectful. That’s when the spiritual teachings are great in theory but somehow don’t apply to “their life or situation.”
So it was for the people who felt it was acceptable to curse at me and send me flaming emails for something I never perpetrated upon them. And even if I did – there is still no reason to take anything personally. Either you believe this agreement is truth and will bring you happiness or you don’t – but you cannot agree with it when it suits you and then not agree with it when you feel like being pissed off!
That’s what I call the secret life of the spiritual rebel. It’s the person who looks all nice and spiritual on the outside but is still justifying their right to live as a victim, still secretly enjoying their righteous indignation, and still exercising their ability to blame others.
Truly I understand – I was one of those people too in the past. I loved to share all the wonderful new ideas I was learning on my spiritual path – but look at me the wrong way – and forgiveness, compassion and not taking you personally were out of sight and out of mind faster than you could blink.
Having been a spiritual rebel myself, I can say with all my heart that there is no excuse for treating others in a less than godly way. It doesn’t matter what happened, what the story was or the outcome, how hurt you were, or inconvenienced – there is no excuse, period. There is understanding: yes, unconditional love: yes, forgiveness: yes, but condoning – no.
So today I challenge you to look deeply inside and see if a spiritual rebel exists within you. Ask yourself if you justify falling back on old ways when you think you have been wronged. Do you allow all your spiritual truths to fly out the window in the need to be right? I’m curious what you think. Do post below and let me know what comes to mind!
With all my love & best wishes, Sheri

Dear Sheri,
Thank you for who you are and what you do. You are a blessing! I do my best to read your articles, however, depending on time not always. I do know that whenever I am drawn to read your articles your message is exactly what I need!
Regarding our country and the rest of the world….we cannot change our government or anyone else for that matter. However, if we intend to make change, individually we must do our best to build our personal power, live in integrity, and with and within the flow of intent. Our world cannot be destroyed nor can anything else. It is simply transformed into something else.
With love and intent, Jillian
Dear Jillian,
Thank you for the beautiful note – well said! I agree with you angel and I do agree if we set our intent and also be the peace we want to see in the world it will be done.
Blessings, Sheri
greetings, “The Secret Life of The Spiritual Rebel” well, as you know I have been there. (probably still am, i wouldn’t put it past my-self). Seeing as I fit the bill of one of those people who don’t know you very well and just contacted you concerning the Toltec teachings, I might have an insight into why people (myself included) act like “spiritual rebels”. When I look at my life, it appears that I had a profound spiritual awakening after reading the four agreements. But that awakening lasted maybe a six months, I then slowly regressed back into my habitual state. For a while I lived the four agreements whole heartedly, I did my best, was as impeccable with my word as I could be, I tried with all that I am to not make assumptions and take nothing personally. However I was slowly sucked back into my habitual emotional state, but my intellect still held these ideals supreme. So I was living from my habitual (hurt) emotional state, while my intellect still held to the ideals of the four agreements. The denial system was back in place. This self-deception was a result of a disconnect between my head and my emotions (head/heart). I found that while all of this was happening I still had an awareness (on a deeper level) of what was happening, I had faith that “this too soon shall pass”. Instead of trying to fix this issue with my intellect (which is what I had been trying to do, which is part of the reason my head still held the four agreements as ideals) I turned to God. I turned to God in prayer, I turned to the Spirit to come and heal this unconscious rift between my head and my heart. The first thing I did was an intellectual step. I threw the four agreements out the window and turned to the ancient teachings on prayer of the Orthodox Fathers and Mothers, the ascetic teachings of the early Christian hermits and anchorites. I turned to the constant repetition of the words, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner”. I turned to a higher power, I let go of trying to heal myself and gave the healing over to the Spirit, as the work of the divine is healing. (But, it was through determination and an unbending intent that I was able to constantly turn to God for help.) I let go of having to do the work myself and do it perfectly and turned to the Spirit to help me and let go, while, at the same time doing my best. Odd how it works… Prayer, the practice of inner stillness gave me the space to finally view my emotions as they are and accept them (though I am far from perfect in this area, I do my best!). I don’t deny my pain, I am HURT! But I am also something far greater! The Spirit is the only presence that can hold my hurt emotions and nurture and give them the love they need. My hurt child has found unconditional love in the Living God.
Chevy makes a diesel truck engine that is clean burning, so not all of the big 3 are to blame.
Dear Scott,
Yes they do – but that is more the exception than the norm! I did look at a couple other clean diesels, but they were pretty expensive and too big for my needs.
Love & miss you, Sheri
Thank you for the article on your car that is getting so much milage. You didn’t say what kind of car and I couldn’t read the emblem. I want to copy the article and send it to all the automobile companies in this country. Oh, you also didn’t say how much the car costs.
Thank you, Elizabeth Clapp
Dear Elizabeth,
The car is a Mini Cooper.
Blessings, Sheri
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Sheri. It was a bit eye opening for me. It felt even disappointing to think about the plight of people. It is amazing that despite all the knowledge and wisdom you have shared with people, so many are still stuck in old patterns. I wonder what it takes for people to break free from limiting thinking. Perhaps people need to live in the wilderness for periods of time to help them break free from such negative patterns. The odds seem to be stacked against us. Unless you are relentless to act as a warrior, you will easily succumb to the dark side of fear etc.
I am sorry people wrote such negative letters to you. Keep doing your work that your inner vision inspires you to do. Many are benefiting from your work no doubt.
Sending a hug,
Mary
Dear Mary,
Thank you for the hug – it is appreciated! We all have our path to walk upon to greater and greater awareness, openness, and unconditional love. I hope the article makes everything think of how they are thinking and behaving in every minute and to not let it be okay to let their guard down – even for a minute. It would be great if we all committed to being kind at all times, no matter what.

It seems to me that the consciousness of the majority of Americans is that it is really OK to consume, consume, consume. There is some type of belief that fossil fuels are a conspiracy theory and that Mother Earth is not being destroyed by the greed of humankind. I guess that we are a country of baby souls who still believe that the Universe revolves around us. Praying that my own consciousness continues to grow and I have compassion for all.
Dear Margaret,
Who knows angel. Before we became agriculturally based we ate what was around, used the earth gently and our numbers stayed small. When we started to grow food and consume larger amounts our popular grew and so did our patterns of consumption. Perhaps we will learn from the errors of our ways before it is too late. Thank you for sharing and posting.
Love, Sheri
Thanks for the teaching, very inspirational and so helpful.
Dear Kelli,
Thank you for posting angel!
Blessings, Sheri
Terrific post! I appreciate your sharing that you yourself have fallen into the trap of being a spiritual rebel.
The ideas in this post remind me of something psychologist Gustav Ichheiser wrote in 1949, “The views, or interpretations, ‘in principle’ are those we hold, or perform, about social facts and issues in a generalized, so to speak, ‘philosophical’ way, that is, as long as we are not faced by any necessity for doing something about those facts and issues… Our views and interpretations ‘in fact,’ on the other hand, are those which actually determine our actions and reactions when confronted by certain situations and issues.”
To be of any value, the four agreements or any spiritual principles must be more than our views in principle; they must be our views in fact.
Dear John,
Well said – thank you so much for posting and sharing your comments!
Blessings, Sheri
The Germans have prfected the diesel engine. Had many tours of the manufacturing factories while in Germany.
In answer to your question its simply big money. The big “3”, our government and the dare I say the unions. Its sad for us the people of America. Mind you this is just my opinion.
Dear Mark,
Yes I remember you told me that! It is amazing to think that Mini has an engine that will go 50 mpg and I have to settle for one that only goes 30 mpg. I used to be so proud of my country growing up. In my heart I have to say I don’t feel that way so much any more. 🙁
Love, Sheri
