SPIRITUAL ONLY WHEN THE GOING IS GOOD?
These past few years have certainly been challenging ones for most of us. Yet – one that has gifted us with the ability to clearly see where we are on our spiritual path. Functioning as a mirror – these difficulties illustrate whether our spiritual tenets translate, or not, into our everyday lives.
Most of us know deep in our hearts that life is transitory, and no matter how challenging life is in any moment – nothing stays “bad.” And although most of us would be happy to do without these spiritual challenges – thankfully, they always move on with time and thoughtful planning.
In this world of duality we must recognize and reconcile the minds desire to classify everything as good or bad – right or wrong. In our habit of judging and assessing everything according to what we believe, we set ourselves up to be constantly swayed emotionally based on the thought forms we chose to indulge in.
If you are putting your spiritual path into practice, make sure it’s not just when things are going well – but when they’re not! In general, it’s easy to have a clear mind when your mind is not swirling uncontrolled around every fearful aspect of your situation. That’s the best time to put your meditation practice to the test and use your awareness to detach from those fearful thought forms. You’ll keep your emotional peace, centeredness and sanity.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to gauge your mental state:
- Do you find yourself focused on the news, feeling depressed and down?
- Does your mind keep focusing on what is problematic in your life?
- Do you find yourself feeling like you will never get out of your current situation?
- Are politics a source of irritation for you?
- Do you complain to friends when you chat together?
- Are you hard-pressed to think of something you are grateful for?
- Are you angry at yourself for taking or not taking certain actions in this economy?
Hindsight is 20-20 vision, I’m sure that there are things all of us could have done if we knew that the economy would be so affected. But we are where we are and all we can do is be as honest with ourselves as possible and do our best to take action, even if it feels scary. Knowing that nothing stays the same can help us move forward regardless of our current circumstances.
Putting your head in the sand and avoiding taking action because you’re focused on fear-based thought-forms is not the way to go. In the end avoidance is an action and you are going to end up with the correct reaction to that kind of action – more fear-based outcomes.
I encourage you to step up to the plate and think, feel and act like the divine being that you are. Don’t continue to co-create depressing emotional energy, make a choice to come from gratitude and love. If each of us takes loving action on our spiritual path – the larger dream will shift. Rather than adding to the depressing state of affairs, challenge yourself to be happy no matter what the circumstances. I promise it will make a huge difference in your life and all those around you.
Blessings & love, Sheri Rosenthal
