OUR FEATURED ARTICLE

Enhancing Our Intuition
by Gayle Franceschetti

New Zealand SpiritualityThere exists within everyone and everything a universal intelligent life force. It resides in us as a natural inner intelligence — a deep or inner knowing. Sometimes it takes the form of a very quiet whispering voice — at other times it can come as a gut reaction or feeling.

For example, how many times have we gone to pick up the telephone and known who was on the line before we answered it? Or perhaps we’ve walked into a room and felt the uneasy vibrations of negative emotions that had just previously been expressed. These kinds of occurrences are all intuitive or psychic experiences, and we all have them every moment; we just don’t realize what’s happening.

We are born with a natural intuitive sense. Young children are very intuitive, although in our western culture they are often trained to ignore their intuitive side early in life. Because many of us have lost track of our intuitive sides, we are accustomed to thinking that some people are intuitive and some people are not.

nz-maoriFor example, women are generally considered to be more intuitive than men. Yet many men follow their intuitive hunches on a daily basis – the really good stock-brokers for example, constantly need to make quick split-second decisions and tend to be very intuitive.

In indigenous cultures, such as the New Zealand Mauri, and in many other such cultures around the world, following one’s intuition is respected and honored as a natural and important aspect of everyday life. Daily life in these cultures is guided by a strong sense of connection to the universal creative force.

Individuals in these cultures learn to follow and trust their own inner sense of truth. The Mauri have a profound sense of the interconnectedness of all life and are brought up that way.

Our rational mind is like a computer; it processes the information that it receives and calculates the logical consequences based on this information. It can only compute the data that it has received directly from the external world — our rational mind can only operate on the basis of the direct experience each of us has had — the knowledge and perceptions that we have gained through our five senses.

The intuitive mind, on the other hand, seems to have access to an infinite supply of information, including information that we have not collected from our personal experiences. It taps into an endless source of knowledge and wisdom: the universal mind. As we learn how to access and rely on this guidance, life takes on a flowing, effortless quality.

Spiritual Holiday to New ZealandBy utilizing both aspects of our brains and tapping into our rational and intuitive abilities simultaneously we can benefit from a balance and integration of logic and intuition. In recent years some schools and businesses, especially in New Zealand, have begun to truly value intuition and to encourage the kind of creativity and progressive thinking that results from intuitive awareness.

Developing our intuitive ability begins with paying attention to what is going on inside of us so that we can become aware of our inner dialogues and observe them as they take place. As we practice listening to our inner voices we become much more aware of our intuitive feelings.

The intuitive process ultimately means trusting in ourselves on an entirely different level. The first step is to clear away any unwanted noise or distractions in our minds so that we can hear our inner voice when it does communicate. The noise or chatter in our minds sometimes makes it difficult to hear our inner voice.

New Zealand Spiritual Retreat This inner voice can be very subtle and tends not to intrude or override our mind’s dialogue. We must learn to quiet our mind chatter and listen to our subtle inner voice, and the best way to do this is to meditate.

Keeping a psychic journal can be an essential step in developing our intuitive abilities by becoming aware of natural psychic activity that is occurring within us on an everyday basis. Simply be willing to notice and write down any and all unusual, weird, funny, bizarre, coincidental, surprising, or odd psychic events over the course of a week or two.

We are generally used to ignoring or denying these situations, and we can actually be blocking them out so:

  • Expect to hear the inner voice of wisdom. When we are in a state of expectation we create a vacuum in our consciousness that literally pulls in solutions, guidance and answers.
  • Trust the inner wisdom by simply noticing and recording all of your hunches, gut feelings, impulses, bright ideas and psychic intuitions.

By engaging in this process we can begin to see what occurs within us and to register how many times our intuition pops up and perhaps struggles with other influences as it tries to make itself known to us. Once we become aware of this process we can become conscious of the times and ways that we stop ourselves from really benefiting from the guidance of our own intuition.

Spiritual Retreat to New Zealand Our spirit, with all of its creative energy and intense drive, is waiting to fill the void in our lives, to provide us with the satisfaction and balance that we have been seeking.

All we need to do is to be willing to allow it to happen. 🙂
