WHAT’S NEW? It’s Summer! Let Your Hair Down!
It is such a positively energizing time of year! Longer days and increased sunshine, more socializing and spending time with family. The summer solstice behind us reminds us to let our hair down and enjoy some calm time for ourselves. Waking up and enjoying coffee in the sunshine and ending the days with a good book on the deck, are all a part of giving ourselves the freedom to enjoy what this summer has in store for us all.
I find that people are just happier in general and more willing to be open to having some good, old-fashioned fun. I encourage you this week to let your hair down, chill-out and just take it all in each day even if just for a couple of minutes.
Happy Summer!
Blessings & love, Sheri

An Option for Simplicity
A few years ago at this time I had just returned from Bhutan, an amazing little country in Asia located east of Nepal and buttressed against the Himalayas. Yes, Bhutan has incredible landscapes and picturesque temples – but more than that, it has kindly people. Life has a slow pace in Bhutan, computers are not popular, nor are televisions or cars – although cell phones are! Folks work hard on their land and live their lives close to the earth. Young people are exposed to our world and aspire for what is modern but look for ways of incorporating technological times with their beloved ancient ways.
Community is important here and people have a deep respect for each other. You don’t hear cursing in the streets or raised voices. People are not “pissed off” nor do they seem to be at the edge of losing their patience or temper. One day for example, a group of us were taking a photograph of a picturesque door which caused us to momentarily block traffic. The car that we were blocking was filled with monks, and as they drove by, one monk stuck his head out of the window to apologize for interrupting our photography! Now if this happened at home, the driver probably would have honked his horn and cursed us for blocking his way. How refreshing!
I pondered the possible causes of their humility and peace and our lack of patience and self-importance. I saw how over-stimulated we are and how we are constantly searching for peace when the answers are right in front of us. Simplicity is the answer. These people live simple lives. Indeed they work hard on the land, but they have simple lives. They do not have 20 errands to run in a day, hundreds of emails to answer, kids to take to different activities, committee meetings, club agendas, dinner engagements, and piles of other obligations. This kind of life has us all stressed and overwhelmed.
