WHAT’S NEW? Happy Thanksgiving!
I want to take a moment to wish each and everyone of you a beautiful Thanksgiving filled with love and joy. I hope you take a few minutes to consider all the wonderful things you have in your life to be thankful for – even if times seem tough.
In the end – most of us do have a roof over our heads, food to eat, people who love us and so much more! The key is to maintain that sense of gratitude at all times in every moment, every day.
As for me, I am very grateful for the friends and family in my life, for all of you that read my newsletter and share yourselves with me, and especially for my health. Do take a moment to take a deep breath this holiday weekend and don’t waste even one second of your happiness over holiday stresses!

What Kind of “Old Baggage” Are You Traveling With??
My son and I just came back from a wonderful four-week journey through Europe and I wanted to share with you some of my observations regarding my personal process on this trip. First and foremost, before we departed I was determined to make this a very special experience for the both of us.
For me this meant to look at my stories and preconceived ideas – the ones that pop-up in my mind and tend to limit my experiences. Of the seven countries we were visiting on this trip, I had lived in several and spend time in all of them – so of course I had a lot of ideas and feelings about each place and its people. My desire on this trip was to be neutral and enjoy each country and its beauty as if it was my very first time.
Our first stop was London, England. I had lived here many years ago just before moving to Canada. Had I gone back without awareness, my old stories would have negatively flavored my current experience and possibly even my son’s experience. I would have been focused on how challenging it had been living here, how hard I worked to make my business successful, and how difficult that period was. My current experience would have been tainted by those old “sad stories of woe.”
Instead, I spend time each morning preparing by meditating for a short time and allowing myself to let go of everything that was in the past and enjoy every moment as if I was seeing everything for the first time – like my son was!
I remember sitting on the open upper deck of the sightseeing double-decker bus. It was a beautiful warm autumn day and I was feeling free from all of my old stories about my time here and experiencing London with new eyes and an open heart. Ahhh!
Our next destination was Paris, a city I am very familiar with. I was excited to show Isaac the Eiffel Tower since he’s been wanting to visit it ever since he was a little boy! After arriving that afternoon on the Eurostar, I had planned for us to have a relaxing evening and take a tour the next day. As soon as we arrived my son begged me to go and see the Eiffel Tower that evening.
I was determined to relax and not go anywhere, but after re-evaluating my thoughts and all the reasons why we should go the next day – I realized I had absolutely no good reason not to go right now so I gave in and off we went.
Once we got there I was so grateful that I listened to my son, as we had the most amazing experience walking up to the 2nd level and taking the elevator from there to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We were blessed with a perfectly beautiful sunset over Paris, views we would not have had during the day if the plans had been my way.
For me the entire trip was about letting go of my own thoughts, beliefs and how I thought things should be. This became especially clear when we spent time with family in Germany and Slovenia. In the past I would have judged each and every person one way or the other.

This time however, I decided that I would accept my family members as they are and not try to change them or convince myself that I am right and they are wrong. I was amazed how I saw everyone in a different light, and how much love I felt for the people I judged harshly in the past. Needless to say this has been the most rewarding visit ever.
It’s fascinating what a very small shift in perspective can do for you. It can change your life profoundly, and I encourage you to explore your old preconceived ideas and feelings so that every day of your life is fresh and new, free from your old limiting ideas . You’ll be happy you did!
