Dear Friends,

Oneness Retreat

What’s new? Me Time! After the holidays finish and a  rather stressful financial year for many of us ends – it’s important to make time to sit down, clear the mind and open the heart. Without that quietude we’ll move from one busy year to the next without clarity as to what we truly desire in life and if we want more of what we are currently creating!

I encourage you to take time to refresh, regenerate and center yourself before embarking on this new year. You will thank yourself for that gift!

That said – consider our two joyous January journeys:
ANGKOR WAT, CAMBODIA: Unconditional Love in Action journey – Jan 22-Feb 1.
The pricing for this journey is great at $1899.00 including breakfast, teachings, volunteering with the children, and tours of the grand ruins of Angkor Wat.
MAYAN RIVIERA: Oneness Retreat: Merging With Divine Presence – Jan 8-14th. The pricing for this journey is $1995.00 USD per person double occupancy including meals, teachings, mala-making, yoga, ceremonies and visits to the ruins.

This month’s article is: SPIRITUAL ONLY WHEN THE GOING IS GOOD? – do post your comments below (they won’t show up until approved) and please Tweet us to others!

Also, please don’t forget about Ales – he is always ready to help you with your personal travel needs!

OUR NEXT TWO SPIRITUAL JOURNEYS

REGISTRATION IS NOW!
MAYAN RIVIERA: Oneness Retreat: Merging With Divine Presence – Jan 8-14th, 2011
Deeksha Oneness Blessing

Relax, affirm, and awaken! Join Sheri on Lake Balcalar in a quiet, safe and delightful area of the Yucatan by some of the most sacred sites in Mexico. Many of us are looking for ways to get to know the Divine and feel the joy of being alive and connected with every being. For spiritual seekers, opening the mystical door through practices, such as breath awareness, meditation, yoga, dancing, prayer, and being with nature helps create a sense of openness to the unity, or oneness of all humanity, no matter our wisdom traditions.

You’ll relax deeply, and enjoy quiet contemplation and nourishing food at the Akal-ki Holistic Spa (plus their spa services if you like!). Meditation, yoga and spiritual teachings to help ground you in your heart will be given throughout the week to help you open, balance and clear your energy centers. We’ll have the opportunity to each create a prayer mala and bless it at the pyramids here – and visit the beautiful sacred sites of the southern Yucatan! You’ll return home feeling rested, centered, and more at peace with your inner and outer world. The 2011 trip cost is: $1995.00 USD per person double occupancy. Details for the Yucatan here!

REGISTRATION IS NOW!
ANGKOR WAT, CAMBODIA: Unconditional Love in Action – Jan 23-Feb 1
Angkor Wat, Cambodia Spiritual Journey

Join New Thought Minister Rev. David Ault for a profoundly heart-opening spiritual journey of service to Siem Reap, Cambodia – home of the incredible ancient temples of Angkor Wat. To open oneself deeply, to risk feeling the suffering of others, and to wish to relieve that suffering – is the definition of compassion and the cultivation of the Buddha within us. As Gandhi once said: The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Do watch David’s video on the right —>

Service is often called unconditional love in action – to give totally of yourself is to be free of ego, 100% present, doing what is needed without judgment. In these moments our heart opens and the truth of who we are comes through – our divine presence. We’ll also have the opportunity to explore the amazing temple complex at Angkor Wat – or at least a part of it! Built in the 12th century, Angkor Wat lies north of the modern town of Siem Reap and is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. 2011 trip cost is: $18995.00 USD per person double occupancy, breakfasts included. Details for Cambodia here!

SPIRITUAL ONLY WHEN THE GOING IS GOOD?

stress

This year has certainly been a challenging one for most of us. Yet – one that has gifted us with the ability to clearly see where we are on our spiritual path. Functioning as a mirror – these difficulties illustrate whether our spiritual tenets translate, or not, into our everyday lives.

Most of us know deep in our hearts that life is transitory, and no matter how challenging life is in any moment – nothing stays “bad.” And although most of us would be happy to do without these spiritual challenges – thankfully, they always move on with time and thoughtful planning.

In this world of duality we must recognize and reconcile the minds desire  to classify everything as good or bad – right or wrong. In our habit of judging and assessing everything according to what we believe, we set ourselves up to be constantly swayed emotionally based on the thought forms we chose to indulge in.

If you are putting your spiritual path into practice, make sure it’s not just when things are going well – but when they’re not! In general, it’s easy to have a clear mind when your mind is not swirling uncontrolled around every fearful aspect of your situation. That’s the best time to put your meditation practice to the test and use your awareness to detach from those fearful thought forms. You’ll keep your emotional peace, centeredness and sanity.

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to gauge your mental state:

  • Do you find yourself focused on the news, feeling depressed and down?
  • Does your mind keep focusing on what is problematic in your life?
  • Do you find yourself feeling like you will never get out of your current situation?
  • Are politics a source of irritation for you?
  • Do you complain to friends when you chat together?
  • Are you hard-pressed to think of something you are grateful for?
  • Are you angry at yourself for taking or not taking certain actions in this economy?

setfree

Hindsight is 20-20 vision, I’m sure that there are things all of us could have done if we knew that the economy would be so affected. But we are where we are and all we can do is be as honest with ourselves as possible and do our best to take action, even if it feels scary. Knowing that nothing stays the same can help us move forward regardless of our current circumstances.

Putting your head in the sand and avoiding taking action because you’re focused on fear-based thought-forms is not the way to go. In the end avoidance is an action and you are going to end up with the correct reaction to that kind of action – more fear-based outcomes.

I encourage you to step up to the plate and think, feel and act like the divine being that you are. Don’t continue to co-create depressing emotional energy, make a choice to come from gratitude and love. If each of us takes loving action on our spiritual path – the larger dream will shift. Rather than adding to the depressing state of affairs, challenge yourself to be happy no matter what the circumstances. I promise it will make a huge difference in your life and all those around you.

With all my love, Sheri

RECOMMENDED BOOK OF THE MONTH

Soil Not Oil: Environmental Justice in an Age of Climate Crisis

Soil Not Oil

With Soil Not Oil, Vandana Shiva connects the dots between industrial agriculture and climate change. Shiva shows that a world beyond dependence on fossil fuels and globalization is both possible and necessary. Condemning industrial agriculture as a recipe for ecological and economic disaster, Shiva’s champion is the small, independent farm: their greater productivity, their greater potential for social justice as they put more resources into the hands of the poor, and the biodiversity that is inherent to the traditional farming practiced in small-scale agriculture. What we need most in a time of changing climates and millions hungry, she argues, is sustainable, biologically diverse farms that are more resistant to disease, drought, and flood. In her trademark style, she draws solutions to our world’s most pressing problems on the head of a pin: “The solution to climate change,” she observes, “and the solution to poverty are the same.”

Using Shiva’s organization Navdanya as a model, Soil Not Oil lays out principles for feeding the planet that are socially just and environmentally sound. Shiva then expands her analysis to broader issues of globalization and climate change, arguing that a healthy environment and a just world go hand in hand. Unwavering and truly visionary, Soil Not Oil proposes a solution based on self-organization, sustainability, and community rather than corporate power and profits. A world-renowned environmental leader and thinker, Vandana Shiva is the author of many books, including Earth Democracy, Water Wars, and Staying Alive. She is the editor of Manifestos on the Future of Food and Seed. Pick up a copy of her book today: Soil Not Oil. ALES’ COOL TIP OF THE MONTH!

THE SPIRIT OF HAWAII

Hawaii

About 20 years ago I had the opportunity to live on the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Looking back, that was one the most memorable times of my life; I interacted with the native people and experienced the beauty and uniqueness of these islands. Having traveled the world, I can say with all my heart that the Hawaiian Islands are not just another beach vacation destination. There is so much heart and deep spirituality – it brings me back year after year.

Each island is unique! Beginning with Kauai; did you know that no building can be built higher than the tallest palm tree? Thoughtful building laws have created a very peaceful and quiet island, perfect for hiking, meditating or even just lying on the beautiful beaches.

Even though the island of Oahu is Hawaii’s most populated island, there are beautiful spots to discover and experience. The Polynesian Cultural Center can be considered a bit “touristy,” but at the same time, it was one of my son’s favorite places. He enjoyed learning about all the South Pacific islands, including New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Tahiti.

Maui is known for its seven sacred pools, reached via a breathtaking drive along Maui’s coast line – and has great opportunities to go whale-watching in the wintertime. The Big Island, Hawai’i is one of my personal favorites – truly diverse in terms of landscape and climate. You can actually ski Mauna Kea in the winter and at almost 14,000 feet it is Hawaii’s tallest volcanic mountain. (And since there is another 19,000 feet below the ocean’s surface it is actually taller than Mount Everest!)

In Hawaiian mythology, the volcanic peaks of the island are very sacred. If you come to the islands for sure you will meet Pele, the Goddess of Volcanoes who makes her home on Hawai’i.

Hawaii

Pele lives in Kilauea, one of the Earth’s most active volcanoes – although her domain includes all volcanic activity on the Big Island. It’s wonderful to experience her power and energy! Connecting with local spiritual traditions and healers, swimming with the dolphins, and experiencing a lomi-lomi massage are a few things you can do to enrich your visit.

These are just a few of the reasons why I love the Hawaiian Islands – but what really inspires me are its people, spirit and culture. I always come home rejuvenated from walking through the beautiful national parks, taking in the fragrances of the flowers, the sounds of the birds and the beautiful waterfalls.

Hawaiians believe in spirit of Aloha, which means affection, love, peace and compassion. If you haven’t visited these beautiful islands yet, I encourage you to do so, you won’t regret it. Let me know if I can help you experience some Aloha in your life – I’d be more than happy to arrange an amazing experience for you.

With Aloha & blessings, Ales Stuna, Director of Custom Travel

WHAT I LOVE – LOVE – LOVE THIS MONTH!

Take a moment to watch this video!

Dr Vandana Shiva is an Indian physicist, environmentalist, author and recipient of the 2010 Sydney Peace Prize. When she found that dominant science and technology served the interests of powerful, she left academics to found the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology, a participatory, public interest research organization.

When she found global corporations wanted to patent seeds, crops or life forms, she started Navdanya to protect biodiversity, defend farmers’ rights and promote organic farming. Dr. Shiva is a fascinating and passionate woman worth listening to. She is not afraid to speak out about Monsanto and genetically modified seeds – or anything else for that matter! Please take a moment to listen to her and do pick up her latest book featured above. Visit www.navdanya.org today to learn more about her wonderful organization.

CenterPointe

Before recommending this product – I decided to give it a try myself to see how it works. I have been using this program for 2 years now and I highly recommend it! I could go into how the sound technology works – but it ’s better if you read their material yourself. The free disc makes a great holiday gift – do give it a try.

Centerpointe Research Institute has created a proprietary audio technology called Holosync® that instantly (and gently) puts you into deep states of meditation (in fact, even deeper than those achieved by veteran Zen Monks), at the push of a button. This means that you can now start enjoying and profiting from all the recognized health benefits of deep meditation beginning the very first day you use it instead of waiting through years of hard practice. FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE MONTH

Words of Wisdom for the Heart

Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem - Join us May 19-29th!

Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem - Join us May 19-29th!

The brightness of the sun, which lights up the world, the brightness of the moon and of fire – these are my glory. With a drop of my energy I enter the earth and support all creatures. Through the moon, the vessel of life-giving fluid, I nourish all plants. I enter breathing creatures and dwell within as the life-giving breath. I am fire in the stomach which digests all food. Entering into every heart, I give the power to remember and understand; it is I again who take that power away. All the scriptures lead to me; I am their author and their wisdom.

~Bhagavad Gita 15:12-15
